A Pavement Management System is a software-based tool that integrates data collection, condition analysis, and decision-making processes for the maintenance and management of pavements. The system allows you to assess the current condition of your pavements, plan necessary maintenance activities, and optimize the allocation of your resources to ensure cost-effective pavement management over time.
At Nexus, we offer an advanced Pavement Management System (PMS) designed to help organizations, make data-driven decisions regarding the maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of their pavement assets. Our PMS is a comprehensive, user-friendly solution that helps you efficiently track, analyze, and manage your pavement network to optimize performance and extend the lifespan of your surfaces.
As part of our state-of-the-art field instrumentation, we offer our clients a combination of advanced PPS Laser Pavement Profiler and High-Resolution Surface Imaging. Featuring sub-millimeter accuracy and eye-safe laser technology, it enables precise evaluation of pavement surface geometry and the detection of a wide range of surface distresses.
The PPS operates on a non-contact laser scanning principle, projecting a dense line of laser points across the pavement surface while the vehicle moves at normal traffic speeds. The reflected laser signals are captured by high-speed sensors, creating a high-resolution 3D profile of the pavement. This profile allows precise measurement of surface irregularities, rutting, roughness, and texture, enabling detailed and objective assessment of pavement condition.

Pavement roughness directly impacts ride quality, safety, and maintenance planning. We provide accurate roughness assessment using advanced profiling equipment to measure the International Roughness Index (IRI) and other key indicators.
The International Roughness Index (IRI) quantifies road roughness by simulating a standard vehicle’s response to longitudinal road profiles, using a “quarter-car” mathematical model. It is calculated as the accumulated average rectified slope of the vehicle’s suspension over a given length and is expressed in units of slope, such as m/km. IRI is important for assessing ride quality, prioritizing road maintenance, and comparing pavement performance across different systems and equipment.
Measure the road profile. A road (inertial) profiler is used to collect detailed elevation data along the road’s wheelpaths.
Simulate with a quarter-car model. This collected road profile is then fed into a mathematical model of a simplified vehicle called the “quarter-car” model.
Calculate the suspension response. The quarter-car model simulates how the vehicle’s suspension would respond to the road profile at a standardized speed.
Average the rectified slope. The IRI is calculated by accumulating the instantaneous response of the vehicle’s suspension (the average rectified slope) and dividing it by the length of the road segment.
Surface distresses are key indicators of pavement health, directly affecting safety, performance, and maintenance costs. Our services deliver precise, data-driven insights by detecting both visible and subsurface defects, including cracking, rutting, raveling, potholes, and surface deformations.
Using cutting-edge technologies such as PPS and high-resolution 3D imaging, we capture accurate pavement surface profiles at highway speeds. These advanced systems enable automated detection and classification of distress types, ensuring objective, consistent, and reliable pavement evaluations every time.

We use an advanced skid measurement system designed for precision and reliability. This device provides continuous, real-time friction measurements under controlled conditions by simulating wet pavement scenarios with a dedicated test trailer and water delivery system.
We produce skid measurements with a vehicle-integrated device (VIS) built for mobility, accurate, high-speed assessment of pavement surface friction. Fully integrated into a specialized vehicle platform, the vehicle-integrated device (VIS) enables continuous data collection across extensive road networks, delivering essential information for modern pavement management systems (PMS).
Ground Penetrating Radar 3D is a revolutionary geophysical technique that provides a comprehensive, detailed view of the subsurface. By utilizing high-frequency radar waves, 3D GPR can create three-dimensional images of underground structures, allowing for precise mapping and analysis of subsurface features. This non-invasive method offers unmatched insight into complex underground conditions, making it a vital tool for a wide range of industries, including construction, environmental assessments, archaeology, and more.

We leverage advanced Heavy Weight Deflectometer (HWD) technology to assess the structural capacity and performance of airport runways, highways, and other pavement systems. The HWD is a non-destructive testing device that simulates the loading of an aircraft or heavy vehicle to evaluate how pavement layers respond under stress.
HWD is uniquely capable of accurately assessing both flexible and rigid pavements, as well as paver block surfaces, making it ideal for diverse infrastructure. The testing process is quick, safe, and does not cause any damage to the pavement, allowing for frequent assessments without downtime. Results from HWD testing support detailed structural analysis and guide maintenance and rehabilitation strategies, improving pavement lifespan and reducing costs.
Our HWD system is fully integrated into a specialized van, enhancing operational efficiency, safety, and mobility. This integration allows rapid deployment across multiple sites, reduces setup time, and ensures testing can be conducted under optimal, controlled conditions, maximizing both performance and safety.
